Volunteers’ Week Thank You Event 2025 Recap
At The Broadcroft Hotel on Thursday, the 5th of June, EDVA hosted the Volunteers’ Week thank you event.
Designed to celebrate, thank and highlight all the hard work, dedication and commitment that the volunteers and organisations they support positively impact their communities.
We Celebrated the following Awards
The Community Impact Award was awarded to the Group Recovery Aftercare Community Enterprise (GRACE), which highlights the organisation’s impact since beginning operations in 2012. GRACE provides a wide range of weekly activities for members, from fitness classes to skills development and social activities.
The Climate Hero Award was awarded to Murdoch Wilson, who volunteers with multiple local community organisations. He highlights possible routes which the community could become more eco-friendly. Murdoch is currently working on producing a local power plan to make the wider community greener by using renewable energy.
Sports Club/Team of the Year was awarded to Lenzie Rugby Club Women’s Team. Since last year, their combined efforts and dedication towards growing their members have led them to grow into a competitive team, going head to head against a team that has had over a decade more experience than them and only fell short by 1 point. Regardless of the result, they have persevered and are an outstanding example of what women’s sports in East Dunbartonshire look like.
The Best Creative Arts Project Award was awarded to GRACE Artwork Project. Their Art of Healing is a powerful example of how creativity can support self-expression, healing, and community connections. The project offered a safe and supportive space for members to explore creativity, build confidence and form meaningful connections.
The Eco-Friendly Award was awarded to Twechar Community Action, which has been growing their own food within its community gardens for 15 years! They have also set up a bike borrowing scheme 6 years ago. They also teach gardening classes with their local primary school and youth clubs.
The Young Volunteer of the Year Award was given to Brooke Fraser. Brooke has been volunteering for 2 years and started at the Magical Crafting Club for kids, She was also involved with activities that used recycled materials. She has also helped with fundraising and a plethora of other volunteering opportunities.
The Volunteer of the Year Award was awarded to Stephen Goody, who is a dedicated volunteer who makes such a positive impact on people’s lives as a befriender. He has supported people living with terminal illnesses and supported their families, too. Stephen goes above and beyond time and time again by bringing his calming, friendly and warming personality on a day-to-day basis. People at Marie Curie have noted his dedication and hard work, and he is a beacon of compassion.
We wanted to take a moment to thank every person who showed up, every nominee whose hard work, commitment, and dedication to their community made it even harder for the judging panel to decide on the winners. Regardless of winning awards or not, this event was created with all the volunteers in mind, and we greatly appreciate everything you all do.
THANK YOU !!!
