Spotlight PAMIS

We want to showcase the amazing work being done by PAMIS in East Dunbartonshire in relation conjunction with Learning Disability Week. The week shines a light on the lives, achievements, and experiences of the 1.5 million people in the UK with a learning disability. The 2026 theme is “Do you see me?”, asking the public to recognise, value, and listen to people with a learning disability.

PAMIS solely supports people with profound multiple and learning disabilities (PMLD) and their families to lead healthy, valued and included lives. People with PMLD need 24 hour care and their families have a full-time role in providing this care for their relatives. PAMIS' Well-being Project aimed to directly improve the health and well-being of people with PMLD and their unpaid family carers by offering a variety of free to access well-being activities focusing on both physical and mental health improvement, indoor and outdoor, provided by trained knowledgeable staff inaccessible venues, with appropriate essential equipment.

Thanks to our Communities mental Health and Wellbeing grant we were able to offer a variety of activities from Evening SOMA Motor Activities and Boccia clubs,  monthly Saturday My Time clubs - with Music for Well-being sessions (including mini massage, adapted Speedboat Sessions, Wheelchair Accessible Pony and Cart rides, Barge trips, and much more!

We were also thrilled to get an opportunity to offer a few families a chance to try out adaptive skiing in Aviemore – on real snow! - rather than just on the dry slopes currently available to us.  This was a tremendous experience for everyone involved!

Some quotes from the families we work with…

It's often difficult to find things we can do together as a family. The activities arranged by PAMIS are absolutely wonderful. Activities like adaptive skiing give us precious and inclusive family time where we can make happy family memories. To watch our son happy and animated is a precious gift and we're so grateful.”

One of our favourite activities for my daughter was wheelchair ice skating.  It was such good fun, a thrilling experience for her to be pushed around the ice rink at such speed! We could see she was really enjoying it, and it gave us such joy to see”
