GIRFEC Consultations

Engagement Sessions now available

The Scottish Government has scheduled a series of engagement sessions; these are proving to be quite popular and many are fully booked. If you would like to attend one, we would recommend booking as soon as possible.

About the consultations

GIRFEC is central to all Scottish Government policies which support children, young people and their families and is delivered through services and people who work with families.

The overall GIRFEC approach is unchanged but guidance is being refreshed and updated. The Scottish Government wishes to consult with key stakeholders to ensure that the materials provide practitioners with the confidence, clarity and practical support to deliver GIRFEC.

Stakeholder Focussed consultation: (GIRFEC) Refresh - Practice Guidance
A small group of stakeholders, including Children in Scotland, have been invited to submit responses to the (GIRFEC) Refresh - Practice Guidance. Below, we've linked all the information and dates for the upcoming engagement sessions. We invite you to review the materials and share your feedback with our team to incorporate into our consultation response.

The refreshed materials are:

  • GIRFEC Policy Statement

  • Statutory Guidance on the Assessment of Wellbeing

  • Practice Guidance on the role of the named person

  • Practice Guidance on the role of the lead professional

  • Practice Guidance on using the National Practice Model

  • Practice Guidance on Information Sharing

  • Information Sharing Charter for agencies and organisations to share with children and families.
